Questions about Welcome

When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.” Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. - Luke 14:15-16

Jesus told lots of stories about being hospitable. This week we’re going to be pondering what it means to be hospitable in different ways and in different spaces. To set us up well, here are a few questions to explore:

  • What are the physical spaces in your life where you are the most hospitable? (Think about places like the lunch table at school or the break room at work; think about who you welcome/talk to on the side lines of your kids’s sports games, think about your home or even your car).

  • What kinds of people are you best at welcoming? Worst? Unpracticed?

  • Is feeling welcomed part of your experience with God? If so how?

  • Finally, it may not sound ‘spiritual’ but take a few minutes to think about food and welcome. Where and how have you experienced welcome around food? (Jesus talks tons about food as part of welcome)

As you think about these questions, what is God bringing to your mind and heart? What might you do with those things?
