Setting God Free To Join Us At Our Tables

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house… Matthew 9:10

Over and over again, Jesus was welcomed into homes and shared meals with people. It was so ordinary, so mundane. Day in and day out, Jesus ate with people. He literally had no home, so every meal he ate, he ate with others. And every one of those meals he turned into a sacred space, just by being there. So often our meals are rushed, our days are feel ‘secular’ and we relegate the ‘spiritual’ side of life to the religious professionals who put on a program for us to enjoy on Sundays.

Our True God has gone missing in action from creation and most human concerns… We have imprisoned God in churches, in ceremonies, and in small, fear-based people.

What if Jesus is waiting to join you at your table today, even if it’s at a fast-food restaurant? What if he may be inviting you to see that table as a place of welcome - where he is welcome, where others could be welcomed, and even where the real you could come out from behind yourself and sit in peace and pleasure for a few moments?

Ask Jesus for eyes to see him at your meals this day, and to see - really see - the others at that table (including yourself!)
