The Gospel Is Alive

In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. - Colossians 1:6

This week we’ve been trying to redefine what ‘the gospel’ means. Today, think about the gospel the way that Paul does - as a seed that takes root in lives and produces the most delicious fruit. It’s organic. It’s alive. As one famous historian put it:

The spirit of the Gospel is eminently that of the “open” type which gives, asking nothing in return, and spends itself for others. It is essentially hostile to the spirit of calculation, the spirit of worldly prudence and above all to the spirit of religious self-seeking and self-satisfaction.

- Christopher Dawson, The Dynamics of World History

Where is the gospel growing in your life? How is the gospel bearing fruit in your community? What in you or in your world to you sense that the gospel is particularly hostile to right now?

Thank God for the gospel today, asking for it to become more and more alive in you and in the world.
