A Vision of Heaven Coming to Earth

Jesus teaches us to pray “May your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). So what does God’s kingdom look like, and what might it look like for it to come to earth?

Most notably, scripture teaches that God’s ultimate kingdom will indeed come to earth. At the end of all things, this is the picture that we get of the advent of heaven as described by John in the book of Revelation:

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” — Revelation 21:1-4

Wow - that’s a remarkable picture isn’t it?! Are there one or two things that stand out to you?

There’s another passage that describes the who of heaven in Revelation 7:9 that says: “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.”

There are SO MANY people there and all kinds of people, too. There’s unity in all the diversity, as they all gather around Jesus (the Lamb).

So take these two views of heaven to heart as you spend some time right now praying for the kingdom of heaven to come on earth today.
