Anger that Does Not Consume

Now Moses was pasturing the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; and he led the flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the midst of a bush; and he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet the bush was not being consumed. - Exodus 3

Iueh Soh shared this passage on Sunday on the panel. He pointed out that so many times, it’s our anger that motivates us toward political action. But it’s also our anger that burns us out.

He mentioned how this image from the book of Exodus has been his inspiration in his political organizing and activism over the years. God is calling Moses back to Egypt and to the work of liberation. But God starts by giving Moses an image of what it will look like to so the hard work without being destroyed by it.

The burning bush is the perfect picture of healthy anger - fueling our passion to change the world, but not consuming us.

Talk with God today about how this speaks to you.
