Back to the Big Picture
The book of Revelation has dragons, beasts, swarms of locusts, and angels wiping out entire nations. It’s like a science fiction book on steroids.
And yet, at the very beginning, there’s a clear picture laid out of what it’s all about. The author is pausing in the midst of embarking on the wild journey of writing these things down and is overcome with just how awesome Jesus is. And as the author takes a breath to give thanks and praise, we remember what not just the book of Revelation is about, but our lives as well.
Listen in:
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. - Revelation 1:5-6
Jesus, who through is solidarity with us in the flesh set us free to his new way of life, loves us. And not just that, but has invited us now to participate in what he’s doing in the world (that’s what priests do). isn’t that amazing?
Take a few moments this morning giving thanks and praise that this is what Jesus is up to in our lives (regardless of how strange some of the Bible is or how apocalyptic our lives are either!).
