One of the things we talked about yesterday in our conversation about miracles was that often they don’t see to generate the kind of relationship that God wants. Throughout the pages of scripture we see God longing to be with people, to connect in love. And yet time and time again, when God does a miracle, the result is not very relational. This short verse summarizes it well:
When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me. - Hosea 13:6
The pattern reoccurs often in Scripture and in our lives. We feel desperate so we cry out to God, and God comes through. But then, since our need has been met, we don’t feel like we need God anymore - we get too proud and think that we’re in control… and then we tend to forget God completely.
Do you sense that cycle in yourself?
And when you look back on moments in your life that you might characterize as miraculous, what was it about them that drew you closer to God - or did they not end up having that affect?
Talk with Jesus about the sorts of things these reflections are stirring up in you.
