Childlike Faith

Jesus popularized that God is our loving parent. He used multiple images of God as mother and God as father. But he didn’t come up with those ideas all by himself. Those images go at least as far back as the Psalms, written hundreds of years before Christ.

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him [are in awe of him] - Psalm 103:13

I am like a weaned child with its mother... Psalm 131:2

Do you relate to God as a parent? Is that a helpful or hurtful image for you? And is it different for you to think about God as Mother vs. Father?

After you’ve reflected on those questions and the things they bring up for you, take a moment to sort of lean into God with the trust of a child. Note, that does not mean not asking questions (kids are famous for asking lots of questions!), but it does mean having a basic disposition that God will parent you well.
