Co-Workers with Christ

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” - John 11:43-44

Jesus does the heavy lifting here, he does the resurrecting. But don’t be fooled - we get invited into the story. Martha and Mary are invited to follow Jesus to the tomb. The gathered friends are invited to roll away the tombstone. And then there’s the above command to unbind Lazarus.

It’s the same in the story we looked at earlier in the week — God breaths life into the dry, dry bones, but Ezekiel is invited twice to prophecy to them. He’s involved in the fulfillment of the vision. In the words of Paul, we’re all invited to be “God’s co-workers” (1 Corinthians 3:9).

So what about you - are there places in your life where God is at work doing what only God can do… and yet you are still being invited in to participate in the healing?

“God commands Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones. Jesus told those gathered to unbind Lazarus and let him go. This ridiculous, radical hope is ours not only to hope, but to proclaim.” - Rev. Danielle Shroyer @sanctifiedart
