Covenant Connections
Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. - 2 Corinthians 3:5-6
Paul is writing on behalf of his ministry team, which specifically included Timothy (who was bi-racial, Jewish/Greek) and Titus (who was Greek). It was a team that had diverse ethnic, cultural, and religious background. And yet, Paul writes that they were all freely admitted into God’s covenant family - and they all had the authority to include others in the covenant family.
Do you have a sense of belonging with God - a sense of God’s ongoing, steadfast commitment to you? That’s part of what it means to be in covenant relationship with God. And do you sense the freedom to invite others into that kind of relationship? (this is not about old-school evangelism, but winsome, loving engagement around God’s favor resting on people regardless of their perspectives/backgrounds)?
