Follow Jesus

Friends - sorry for the bumps in the Daily Devotions this week - I'm still learning how to use the new website.  Thanks for your patience! - bill

Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.”
     - Mark 1:17, The Message

This week we've been looking at how parenting is really just discipleship, and discipleship is really just imitation.

In this passage, Jesus invites Peter, Andrew, James and John into his life - "Come with me."  Jesus's invitation is to share life together, because he knows that's how imitation works best.  But then he lets them in on the end game - they are going to do the exact same thing he does!  He just went fishing for them, and now he's going to help craft them into those who will fish for others.

Jesus is doing the same thing he's teaching (he's 'catching' them while he's teaching about 'catching' others), and he's reproducing himself by inviting others to become like him.

How about you?  Are you following Jesus just for the comfort and encouragement he brings, or are you willing to dive in and become like him, to imitate him, which no doubt will lead you to open your life to others and invest in them spiritually?
