Gathered and Scattered
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens…
A time to scatter stones
and a time to gather them.
Ecclesiastes 3:1, 5
There are different seasons in life. For the past sixteen months, City Church has been in a season of meeting on zoom. Yesterday, for the first time, we gathered for a regular Sunday service in person, while some still gathered as City Church on Zoom.
There were a lot of emotions all around. There was some fear of missing out, some health concerns, a lot of awkward greetings, some hugs, some “I can’t believe how big your child is!", and maybe even a few tears. We’re on the front end of learning how to gather in this new/old way. But we trust that God is in it, God knows about the different seasons of a church, and that God cares about the different seasons of the individuals in it like you.
So take a moment today and ask yourself how are you feeling about this change in season for the church (and for the ‘reopening’ of California that happens tomorrow. Don’t push down what bubbles to the surface - just embrace it and hold it gently before God.
