Generosity in Small Actions
“We know only too well that what we are doing is nothing more than a drop in the ocean. But if the drop were not there, the ocean would be missing something.”
Mother Teresa
Have you ever met someone who you would describe as truly generous? I can think of a few- and perhaps what stands out the most is that they were not necessarily generous with money, but instead were sincerely giving of their time, attention, advice, and care. I remember being a child and having a dinner with an old family friend. They asked me a question and as I started to answer I was interrupted by another adult at the table. This friend paused the adult, and returned their attention toward me, inviting me to finish my story. This generous act of time and attention has stood out to me to this day. Sometimes generosity gets to be big- but a lot of the time generosity gets to be small, micro moments where we give a little bit of ourselves to another.
God, may you remind us that our small actions are still apart of the bigger story of showing the world what a loving God you are.
