God Loves Questions
Should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left—and also many animals?”. - Jonah 4:10-11
These are the very last lines of the book of Jonah, and they end with a question. In fact, the third question that Yahweh asks Jonah in 10 verses. It seems that God is quite committed to being inquisitive.
Rachel Held Evans points out that so many times Christians use the Bible to do the opposite of what God does here: we throw down a scripture verse in order to end a conversation by proving we’re ‘right.’ God seems intent on opening up conversations.
How comfortable do you feel with the idea that God is a curious God, always asking questions? Is that one of the big images you have had of God?
