How Does God Feel About You?
“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
- Luke 15:8-10
Yesterday we talked about how God loves to gather together the angels to celebrate when one little human being reorients their lives towards what's most important. The passage says that "there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels," which is just a fun way of saying that God is super excited, happy, and delighted.
So many times we don't think of God as having emotions - God is just some generic force or idea. But Jesus insists over and over again that emotions run deep in God, especially when it comes to beloved sons and daughters like you and me. Three times in this chapter (Luke 15) Jesus paints word pictures of God's crazy love for us, especially when we've been missing in action and finally get reconnected with God.
One of the challenges, of course, is that God is not a physical being, so it's hard for us to always feel close. Does it make a difference to you that God wants to connect with you and that God feels happy connecting with you? Ponder those things and spend some time talking with God about what's on your mind and heart.
