I Am Black and Beautiful
I am black and beautiful,
O daughters of Jerusalem,
like the tents of Kedar,
like the curtains of Solomon.
- Song of Solomon 1:5
There are many long stretches of the Bible where we don’t hear the voices of women. And then there are some places where we get to hear those voices loud and clear, like the Song of Solomon. Fully half of that book in the Bible is the woman’s voice. And she’s not shy about embracing all the goodness of who she is.
Can you speak those types of words over yourself? What gives you pause? What might it look like to embrace her freedom (and courage) and to speak such kind things about yourself? Invite the Spirit to help you give it a try today.
