Interpreting Kairos
How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time? - Luke 12:56
In the original language of the Bible, Jesus is asking his listeners, “How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this KAIROS?” Kairos is the Greek word for time that is pregnant with meaning. For example, the moment you received the divorce papers or held your newborn child may have only taken seconds, but it stands out strikingly in your memory because it was so significant.
We use this simple graphic to think about recognizing kairos moments, reflecting on what God is saying to us through them, and then responding to what God is saying in concrete ways.
As your decade ends today, take some time to ponder what God has been saying to you this decade. How have you changed? How have you resisted change? What has helped you love better? What has distanced you from others or from God? What were the main ways you met God?
Ask God to help you mine these kairos moments and to step into 2020 having wisely interpreted the times…
