Inviting God's Presence into the Everyday

As I was reading through the woman at the well story, I was struck by how Jesus took this rather small, daily, routine interaction, and made it a moment of connection with this woman. I almost read it as a comedy- she keeps talking about water and Jesus clearly is hinting at a deeper meaning- which took her a while to get! But in the mundane task of asking for water, he managed to break down gender and ethnic barriers, cause her to think and ponder what she believed, and provided invitation for her to lean in and discover more.

I know for a fact I do not allow my mundane, every day tasks to be a conduit of the Holy Spirit enough. I’m often checking tasks off the list in order to move on to the next. I wonder what it would take for me to slow down, pause my heart and mind, and simply invite God’s presence into the everyday, to hear where He may want to meet me in those moments.

God, may your Spirit remind me to slow down and meet you right where I am, no matter how simple or mundane that place may be.
