Hope Is The Thing With Feathers
We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven. Colossians 1:4-5
Hope is not a knowledge of the future - it’s a grounded conviction that good still awaits us. And so much goodness comes to us in the present when we have hope - like the faith and love Paul mentions coming from hope in Colossians 1:4-5.
Listen for how the Spirit might encourage your heart towards hope through the images from this famous poem:
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
Emily Dickinson
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
