Who Does God Speak Through?

I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
- Joel 2:28-29

Let’s take a look at the diversity we see promised in this passage. It crosses gender, age, and class. And in case we missed the point, God includes that the Spirit will be poured out on ALL PEOPLE… so you can go ahead and imagine other categories of people as well. Just in the Old Testament alone we see God directly speaking through a shepherds and kings, foreign tyrants (Nebuchadnessar) and foreign religious leaders (Balaam), and even a donkey!

So how open are you to God’s Spirit falling on you today (because apparently you’re not in some category that’s outside of God’s reach)?

Who are the people you think God doesn’t really talk to and through? What might you need to do with those categories of ‘in’ and ‘out’?
