Like a Deep Drenching Rain
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ ” Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ” - Matthew 4:5-7
The reason Jesus didn't have to put God to the test is that he trusted. Jesus had experienced God's blessing at the baptism, just before these temptations. As he came up from the water, Jesus had heard his Father say these powerful words:
YOU ARE MY SON, WHOM I LOVE, WITH YOU I AM WELL PLEASED
This morning, take some time to meditate on those words and feel free to substitute 'daughter' if you'd like :-). Read those words over again, slowly. Let them sink in. Be still and silent. Replay them in your mind. Ask God to make them real for you today. Can you feel God's favor? Can you hear his whisper? Let those truths sink into your mind and heart and body, like a deep drenching rain.
