Owning Where We Are At with the Poor
Listen, my dear siblings: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? - James 2:5-6
Ask yourself three questions about this passage:
Get in touch with your feelings about the poor being chosen by God to inherit God’s kingdom. Do your feelings line up with this spiritual reality?
How have you dishonored the poor? Pause and think on it. Not to shame or blame, but to face reality.
Do some thinking, since it may not be immediately obvious: how have you experienced exploitation at the hand of the rich?
Talk with God about the things that are standing out to you.
