Pray Naked
On sunday we heard remarkable insights from Emma Roy about her experience of praying naked while looking in the mirror (it is HERE if you’d like to listen). She shared about moving her mind away from the critical pathways it has been trained to think about by our culture. She shared about starting to appreciate God’s creativity and being surprised by how much peace she experienced doing this.
For some of you, this may sound like a real stretch. But sometimes it’s good to stretch.
It’s almost certain that Jesus was naked as he was hung on the cross, and he prayed in that state. His was a prayer of lament and suffering, while we’re moving towards gratitude and blessing - but there may be some lament as well for you. And one way or the other, the vulnerability of being physically naked and turning towards God may well help your connection.
So read over this passage and spend 5 minutes in the mirror without clothes on, asking God to show you what you look like form God’s perspective. See if you can give God thanks. Be open to what the Spirit might be saying to you.
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. - Psalm 139:13-14
