Secure in the Squalls
This seemed a very appropriate prayer to end our week thinking about Jonah praying in the belly of the fish. What speaks to you here? Are there lines that might be good for you to pray today?
SECURE IN THE SQUALLS: A PRAYER FOR WHEN THE STORMS SURROUND
Erina Kim-Eubanks
God of the storm,
the squalls are all around-
furiously rising,
dreadfully swamping,
ever unrelenting.
The storms of hurricanes and floods,
school shootings and bloody protests,
police violence and political theater,
tragedy and grief,
are constantly coming up against us.
We are tired and we are afraid.
So in all that we are facing,
remind us that you care,
as you teach us the tension of
rest and response,
as you show us there are
times to sleep
and times to rise.
Shown us that a pause on your visible activity
is not a pause of your presence.
Fill us with faith in your words
even when they feel far off.
Help us too to learn the rhythms of rest and response,
of holding care that is not contingent on constant reactivity.
And take us to the other side.
Keep us secure in the squalls.
There is no way through without you.
Amen
