Setting Aside An Hour This Week

Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13-17

Yesterday we looked at the spiritual practice of spending an hour alone, device-free, to reflect over the past week, asking the questions “Where did I meet God over the past week? Where did I miss God over the past week?”

The whole idea is to hear from God what’s bringing you life and what’s not bringing you life - and then rearranging how we live so that we get more life. So often we run crazy through our days, looking at our little screens every free moment we get, and numbing ourselves with food and videos until we fall asleep. It’s so, so hard to take a break to get above it all, to listen for God, to reflect on how we’re living. And yet, that’s where we find more life.

Odds are, you probably already have a sense of needing some space and time in your life to connect more with God and reflect. Could you put it on your schedule for sometime in the next few days? Sure, you’ll have to face the fear of what happens if you fail and don’t do it, or even worse, that you set aside the time but don’t feel like you hear from God. But aren’t those risks worth taking if there’s a chance you’re going to connect and gain some direction for your life? You’ll be blessed if you do it!
