Staying In Focus on Black Friday

This is what the Yahweh says:
“Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.” - Jeremiah 6:16

God’s invitation to us is to join with the Spirit in discerning where we will flourish - ‘the good way’ as Jeremiah calls it. Most likely it will not be in what we purchase or what we own, although our culture promises otherwise.

For many of us, today is a day off to spend with friends or family or shopping or playing, and all of those can be a gift. Their gift-ness is especially enhanced when we enter into the day with appropriate focus and attention on God and what God is up to in our lives. So take a few minutes today to read over again God’s gracious invitation in Jeremiah 6:16 and to begin your day standing and looking for God, for flourishing, and for rest.

And see if you can make yourself a plan or set a reminder to take a break from your other Black Friday activities to take a 10 minute break to walk around the block, employing this simple Daily Examen to help you refocus:
