Taking the Initiative

This is a personal snippet in one of Paul’s little letters that shows how much it can mean to us when someone else takes the initiative to reach out to us:

May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. - 2 Timothy 1:16-17

It can be hard to take the initiative to connect with other people. It feels like a risk, especially if it’s not a best fiend or a family member, to invite someone out to coffee or a beer. It can feel awkward to text someone you know only a little to ask how they are doing, even if you know they are going through a hard time.

I’d like to suggest that these small steps are crucial to the journey of following Jesus.

In a country where the Surgeon General has decreed that we’re facing a loneliness pandemic, taking these small steps towards is HUGE.

Is there someone you might reach out to this week?
