The Apostle to the Apostles

Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” - John 20:18

Mary Magdalene has been called ‘the apostle to the apostles’ because she was the one who told them about the resurrection. Let’s take a moment to ponder this short verse.

Mary met Jesus, it changed her life, and she was willing to tell others about it. There is something powerful about telling your story. It’s hard to argue with a story, isn’t it? It’s what someone else has experienced, so the telling of it invites us to ponder, to imagine, to connect. In some ways, a good story sucks us in so much that we start living inside of it, at least for a moment, seeing things from this new perspective. This is why we love books and movies, right?

So take a moment and reflect on how you’ve seen Christ these days, and what impact that’s had on you. Would you be open to sharing that story with someone? It’s a vulnerable thing to do, and yet it’s such a gift that we can give.

For those of us who want to be particularly courageous: note that Mary shared her story with the publicly recognized leaders of her religious group. Is there a religious authority you might want to share your story with? (Perhaps it would do them some good!)
