The Practice of Getting Lost
Today, we invite you to intentionally get lost, to allow yourself as close to a wilderness moment as you can manage. As you set out to wander, perhaps you’d like to mull over these Scriptures. How does it speak to your soul that Jesus spent time in the unknown, too? That Jesus looked for God in uncharted territory, in the midst of struggle and temptation, just like we do? Talk with Jesus about these things.
John 4:1, “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil…”
Heb. 4:15-16, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Get Lost: Intentionally set aside 30 minutes to wander around a neighborhood or large park where you do not assign a destination. Focus on just enjoying the walk. Towards the end, notice what’s been going on inside of you. What were your thoughts? Your feelings? Was it hard or easy? Do you have any sense of meeting God on the journey?
