The Rhythm of Blessing
This week we’ve been working to put into practice Gratitude Blessings, Special Occasion Blessings, and Practical Blessings. Today we’ll think about baking rituals of blessing into our everyday lives.
From what we can tell, Boaz had a ritual of blessing with his workers. There was a sort of ‘call and response’ to their greeting when he came into the fields. Listen in on how it goes:
Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The Lord be with you!” “The Lord bless you!” they answered. - Ruth 2:4
Notice how the called down God’s favor on the other, how it was short, and how it was responsive.
Here are some examples of daily blessings to consider implementing.
Each time they head off to work, one roommate says, “For the King” and the other responds “and for the Kingdom.”
Each night at bedtime, mom pronounces Aaron’s blessing over her baby.
Each day when dropping off the kids at school the dad prays a one sentence prayer over each kid, and each child says the ‘amen.’
One dad (as we heard on Sunday) after bedtime prayers says to his son, “You’re the best” and the son responds “No, YOU are the best” and they continue for a few rounds of that.
One dad asks his children on they way out the door each morning, “Whose are you?” and they respond, “I belong to the Lord and I belong to you.”
Perhaps one of those stood out to you or made you think of another way to build a daily blessing into your rhythm. Take some time to talk with the Lord about how to do that and share with someone else your thoughts to encourage you on the journey.
