The Wisdom of Taking a Walk
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. - Proverbs 13:20
The book of Proverbs is essentially an extended argument to listen to wisdom. Sure, it’s a collection of wisdom sayings, but the whole book is based on the idea that we flourish in life when we are humble enough to recognize we need the wisdom of God dispensed through others.
A key piece of the puzzle is to simply “walk with the wise.” Note, this is not complicated. There’s no three step process. And you can even take it literally and it has the same impact as if you take it metaphorically: just get out there and take a walk with someone you respect and can learn from. If you do, you’ll grow wiser.
So how are you at getting near wise people? How are you at inviting them to take a walk (or share a cup of coffee or a beer)?
Talk with Jesus about what wise soul you might reach out to this week to take a walk with them.
