Those Who Invested in Us

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. - 2 Timothy 1:5

Timothy was mentored by the Apostle Paul. But Paul is smart enough to know that Timothy’s mentoring didn’t start with him. It started with his mother and his grandmother - women of deep faith who trained Timothy up in a way of life that oriented towards God.

As Larry Dove mentioned in the message yesterday, God was at work in him far before he was aware of God. And that’s what Paul is recognizing here with Timothy. While Timothy was an infant, God was at work in his life. Timothy grew up in this womb of grace, learning from godly women how to orient his life around God. Paul knew his whole family, so it makes sense that he would write this later in his letter to Timothy:

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. - 2 Timothy 3:15

So how about you - Who has invested in you? (and who invested in you before you were aware of it?) What are some of the ways you’ve learned about God from others?
