Three Times a Day

Three times a day Daniel got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
- Daniel 6:10

During this season of Lent, City Church is focusing on learning spiritual practices and actually doing them. We’re not trying to accumulate a bunch of theology or memorize a bunch of bible verses. We’re looking to explore different rhythms that help us stay connected to God. As you go through these devotions and Sunday services, keep your eye out fo the practices that really seem to fit you. And then employ them regularly!

Today, we’re going to focus on giving thanks at three different times, just like Daniel. If at all possible (yes, it may feel weird, but give it a try!), do your best to find the space and time to actually kneel in prayer. There’s something about bodily posture that affects the soul.

So here’s the plan. Use your phone to set three different alarms. Plan them for different times in the day when you think you could pause for one to five minutes. When the alarm goes off, sneak off to a quiet spot and (kneeling if possible), start listing off to God things you are thankful for. Don’t try to be fancy - just search your heart and mind and then name to God the things for which you are grateful. Say a big thank you and return to your day. Then repeat that at two other times today. (And consider doing it more regularly)
