Two Prayers in the Storm
These are two passages in the Bible about the storms we face. The first is from God’s perspective. The second is from ours. Yet both are in the Bible - so there’s clearly some creative (or just plain painful) tension when it comes to riding out the storms of life.
But now, this is what the Lord says—
he who created you, Jacob,
he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you. - Isaiah 43:1-2
Save me, O God,
for the waters have come up to my neck.
I sink in the miry depths,
where there is no foothold.
I have come into the deep waters;
the floods engulf me.
I am worn out calling for help;
my throat is parched.
My eyes fail,
looking for my God. - Psalm 69:1-3
