Unashamed

How many times have we each witnessed the scene (or been a part of it!) where a parent does something that embarrasses their kid? Maybe it’s the uncool shirt we wear or how we greet them after school or something we say over dinner… and our kids just can’t stand it.

That’s one picture of being ashamed of someone. Of course, it goes much deeper than teenagers being uncomfortable. We’ve each done things that we would do almost anything to hide from the watching eyes of both strangers and friends. And then there are the things that have been done to us that we stuff down into the inner darkness, hoping they’ll never show up again.

Into this morass of of shamefulness, Jesus shows up. The Word made flesh moves into our neighborhood, experiences teenagers, faces individuals with complicated and troubled pasts. And he is unashamed of them - which is all the more remarkable because he knows all.

Jesus is unashamed to call us siblings. - Hebrews 2:17

What implications are there that Jesus is not ashamed of you? Do you ever wonder how that could be, given all you’ve done? Have a conversation with brother Jesus today to talk about these things, asking him to help you see yourself the way he sees you.
