What Jesus Have People Sold You
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” - Matthew 16:13-14
Everyone out there has opinions about Jesus, which is just fine. What’s tricky is when those opinions have a massive influence on you. Take, for example, parents and pastors. When we are either young and/or gullible (or just new in our spiritual journey), these people have a disproportionate impact on us - so any miscues they give us about Jesus can really mess us up.
Take for example, Billy Minshall, who shared his story yesterday. His very fundamentalist church told him about Jesus but let him know quite plainly that he was not worthy of Jesus because he was gay. That’s a big wound to carry through life.
List off a few people who have had the biggest spiritual influence on you. What about that influence has been positive? Negative? Talk with Jesus about these things.
