What Will I Tell My Children?

A week ago, not through the marketing-savvy calculations of the NFL, MLB, WNBA, or NBA, but though the individual and organic courage of the players, for the first time in history the profession sports industry came to a standstill to protest racial injustice. It was a historic moment.

Player after player remarked on how it was time for them to use their platform to speak out against injustice. Many, like Clayton Kershaw, the most famous pitcher for the LA Dodgers, put it in perspective by saying things like this, summarizing their faith-in-action:

“We're supporting Black players. We're supporting the Black community and what they're going through. ... It's as simple as that. We’re supposed to love God and love others. It comes with the territory of supporting them. It’s part of loving them well.” - Clayton Kershaw

Take 90 seconds today to watch this video of Mookie Betts, the famous MVP now playing for the Dodgers, as he reads some remarkable lines from Jackie Robinson (the first Black pro baseball player) on what it means to work for justice.

Finally, ask yourself, “If justice is what love looks like in public (Cornel West), then how well am I loving today?”
