When Heat Comes

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” – Jeremiah 17:7-8

“When heat comes” - Isn’t that a great image for the inevitable hardships of life? Today, instead of analyzing the text, we’re going to try to internalize it, asking God to care for our hearts in the process.

So take some time to read that passage out loud two or three times, listening with your heart for what resonates deep within. Hold that word or phrase or image before God, perhaps even extending your hands palms upward as a physical sign of holding these things out to God for clarity. Sit in that space for a few moments, quietly dwelling on God’s word to you, allowing the Spirit to comfort and guide you.
