When We Do Not Know What To Do
Today we look at an old poem about uncertainty. It seemed like a nice bridge between our theme of looking at Mary this week and the upcoming New Years holiday. When Mary heard the angel’s greeting, scripture says “She was very perplexed by his words” (Luke 1:29). She had a lot to think about, a lot to sort out. It just wasn’t very clear. And when it comes to a new year dawning, a lot of us may be feeling the same way.
So let the Spirit speak to you, comfort you, and perhaps even inspire you with these lines:
It may be that when we no longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work,
and when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
