Who Gets Jesus?
“This is what God's kingdom is like: a bunch of outcasts and oddballs gathered at a table, not because they are rich or worthy or good, but because they are hungry, because they said yes. And there's always room for more.” - Rachel Held Evans
Jesus was criticized for who he welcomed to his table. He simply responded with, “I did not come to call the righteous but sinners” (Matthew 9:13). It’s a strange hodgepodge of people whom Jesus gathers around himself. Have you ever noticed what an odd group it is? How do you feel about diversity - like, really feel about it? If one of our goals is to be like Jesus, how do you feel about starting to collect such a diverse and odd assortment of friends around you? Ponder your hesitations, and then go ahead and name them to God. What might be exciting about such a cadre of friends? What might be a next step towards becoming more like Jesus in this way?
