Who Is Your Neighbor?

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
- Leviticus 19:34

This week we’ve been looking at the command to “love your neighbor as yourself,” which occurs for the first time just a few verses before the above scripture (in Leviticus 19:18). The Lord quickly clarifies in these verses who exactly are our neighbors. In this passage, it’s immigrants. They are to be loved as we love ourselves.

If you read much of the news or have many friends who have immigrated to the U.S. (or to pretty much any country), you’ll know that being an immigrant is brutally hard. And God sees them and wants to use you to love them - as much as you love yourself.

Pray today for an opportunity to love an immigrant and keep your eyes open for how to love these neighbors of yours.
