Embracing Joy
Yahweh is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. - Psalm 28:7
How in touch are you with your feelings of confidence, strength and joy? Sometimes we can feel almost more vulnerable when we’re articulating our uplifting emotions because we worry that ‘the other shoe will drop soon.’ Brene Brown calls this ‘foreboding joy’ - that sense of not being able to truly enjoy feelings around goodness and happiness because you’re always worried about them coming to an end. Is this something you deal with?
Take some time today to see if you can get in touch with the emotions that bring happiness, comfort, and peace. Can you speak those back to God in a simple phrase or sentence? And if you need to, ask God for the grace to be truly present to your joy instead of living in fear of that joy going away.
