A Week of Blessing

“The Lord bless him!” - Naomi in Ruth 2:20

“The Lord be with you!” - Boaz to his workers in Ruth 2:4

“The Lord bless you!” - Workers to Boaz in Ruth 2:4

There is lots of blessing going on in the book of Ruth. It’s a welcome relief from the deep work of grieving, advocating, and working for justice. Perhaps it’s not so much a relief as a fuel. Blessing keeps people positive and motivated and focused on purpose so that they can continue in whatever challenges they are facing (like a quarantine).

This week we’re going to gear ourselves up to give blessings to others. It’s not deep theology, but it’s real theology. By giving a blessing we project goodness on to people, we care for real needs (emotionally, spiritually, socially and physically), and we inject energy into another soul.

So how do you feel about blessing others this week? Seriously - ask yourself that question (how do you feel about blessing others?). Do you have strong opinions or reservations or enthusiasm or fear? Each of the next four days we’ll be talking about a specific kind of blessing and inviting you to bless others in that way for the day. Pray today for an openness to follow through and to enter into a week of blessing in the Spirit of Christ.
