Bring Your Child-like Heart to Jesus

This past Sunday at City Church was all about joyful noise: the kids stayed in service with us, while the volunteers took a well-deserved holiday break. They played drums with wild enthusiasm and led us in sincere reflection on what it means to care for family. The older ones gifted us with a dramatic reenactment of our Scripture story -in some cases, their hands shaking but their hearts so brave.

There’s goodness to kids having spaces especially designed for them, but there’s so much goodness to having them with us too! Jesus loved having children around so much, he got into a fight over it with his disciples in Mark 10:

13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.

14 When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” 16 Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them.

What do you learn from children when you’re in a space to really notice them? What childlike parts of your own heart do you have a tendency to consider a bother (like the disciples) and scold? Can you hear Jesus saying, let those parts come to me?

You’re invited to talk with Jesus about these things - imagine him taking you in his arms, placing his hands on your head and blessing you, every part of you.
