Even Jesus Looked for Kairos Moments

This week we’ve been thinking about how to keep an eye out for what God is up to in our lives. We’re trying to pay attention to those key moments - often we call them ‘kairos moments’ - when we see God at work. Have you noticed any in the past day?

One of the best things about Jesus is that he shows us how to do the spiritual journey in healthy, life-giving ways. In our passage for today, note how Jesus himself kept watch for what God was up to. Jesus’s whole purpose in life was to see where God was at work and then to join in. In the language of our devotionals this week, Jesus was making the most of every kairos.

So Jesus explained himself at length. “I’m telling you this straight. The Son can’t independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the Son does. The Father loves the Son and includes him in everything he is doing. - John 5:19-20

As Jesus followers, let’s keep on looking out for what God is up to in our lives. Even as you read this simple devotional, perhaps there’s something that’s struck you - some moment recently that’s standing out (whether it was positive or negative, God no doubt was in it somehow) or some fear or anticipation you have for your day. Invite the Spirit to help you see where God is in these things and spend time talking it all through with Jesus.
