Friendship is Presence

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. - Proverbs 18:24

At then end of yesterday’s devotion we reflected on the friends we’ve had in our lives. Some have been good friends. Some, not so much. It is comforting to be reminded from the book of Proverbs (written almost 3,000 years ago) that for millennia, both types of friendships have been part of what it means to be human.

One of the key attributes of friendships is just showing up. A friend is one who “sticks close” according to this verse in Proverbs. This isn’t the only way to think about a friendship, but it’s certainly an important one.

As you reflect on the friends in your life, what is the Spirit saying to you about who has shown up for you recently and about who you have been trying to show up for?
