God as Friend

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

    -- John 15:15 (NIV)

Yesterday, we spent time thinking about the things we might be hoping Jesus doesn't see - the reasons why we want to keep him out of that Intimate Space. It is actually terribly human to feel like God does not belong in that space. As Chris pointed out on Sunday, when we look at these levels of relationship, we see a HUMAN space. This is where humanity exists. But it is easy to see God as radically "other" from these circles. Like somehow God has a separate circle all his own where he hangs out and does his thing.

But God has actually called us "friend." He has changed the rules of the game. He came down to earth as Jesus, walked around in human flesh, and made known to us his desire to be our friend.

Jesus is calling you to be his friend. How do you feel about that? What would it mean to be friends with God?
