God Loves Embodied Existence

The Word became flesh and dwelled among us.

The Word didn’t become a religious system.

The Word didn’t become a theological checklist.

The Word didn’t become a political movement.

The Word didn’t become an ecstatic experience.

The Word became flesh. Loving embodied existence.

- Rich Villodas

As you start to think about the new year approaching, how will you treat your body? Pastor Rich Villodas reminds us that it’s our actual embodied life that Jesus came to redeem. Jesus didn’t wave a magic wand to touch our spirits or drop some knowledge to convince our minds. Jesus took on flesh and blood, once for all valuing our human bodies, echoing God’s earliest commentary on the human body, “It is very good.” And note that God didn’t say that about the idea about creating us - God only said that after creating us and beholding us in our physical state (read Genesis 1!).

If this is how God feels about our bodies, how should we feel about them? Are there new or better ways to treat our bodies in 2022 that would honor God? Talk with the Spirit about these things now.
