Pitchforking Souls into Heaven?

If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? 17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. - James 2:15-16

Amy Carmichael moved to India in her early 30s to serve girls and women destined for sex-trafficking. She never returned home to her native Ireland. When Christians back home criticized her for not being purely about ‘evangelizing the pagans,’ Amy responded by writing back:

One can't save and then pitchfork souls into heaven... Souls are more or less securely fastened to bodies... And as you can't get the souls out and deal with them separately, you have to take them both together. - Amy Carmichael

Are there times when you’re tempted to treat other humans as mere minds or souls passing through the world? How good are you at actually caring for real bodies and thinking about practical needs like food and clothing? Talk with God about these things, paying attention to things like guilt or blame or defensiveness. Ask for clarity of how to love well today.
