God's Purpose

As you read the scripture for today, look at the language that Paul uses: God does something IN ORDER THAT God might then be able to do something else. The first part of that equation is that God rescues us - saves us, heals us, gives us new life in Christ and guarantees our future. Now look at why God does that - which is the part AFTER the ‘in order that’ phrase:

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. - Ephesians 2:6-7

Did you get it? Did you see that the whole purpose (in this passage at least) of God rescuing us/healing us/saving us is so that for all eternity God could lavish more and more goodness on us. It’s a poor image, but it’s like a doting grandparent whose whole life revolves around giving gifts to the grandkids!

Take a moment and just breathe in and breath out slowly, letting it sink in that all God really wants to do is pour more and more grace on you.

Amen.
